Our Vision Our Future

One Campus School in 2020

One Campus – One Vision

At the beginning of 2018, the Board were looking at options for our Secondary School. After completing a Business Plan and meeting with our current partners in the Oakbank Area School, it was determined that we would prioritise a move of our Secondary School onto our Verdun campus.

To determine this outcome we developed financial, educational and enrolment models whilst undertaking a Building Master Plan that would ensure that HCCS moved forward as a true ELC-Year 12 campus, with the best possible approach.

This began with the Year 7 extension which was completed earlier this year and has culminated in the exciting plans developed by Phillips Pilkington Architects that is now before us. This is to build our Secondary School on one of the most beautiful of locations next door to the ELC/OSHC.

This development and those in future years, will secure our financial viability and provide our whole School with the best facilities available for our students and staff.

Minuzzo Project Management will commence work in the first week of Term 3 2019, with the completion expected around early to mid-May 2020.

The Secondary buildings themselves will include the following facilities/rooms:-

  • Science Laboratory and Preparation room.
  • Art Room (with provisions to develop this into an additional Science Lab.)
  • Home Economics
  • ICT Lab.
  • 5 general classrooms
  • Meeting Room (which may also be used for smaller classes).
  • Tutorial room.
  • Offices spaces for Head of Secondary and School Counsellor.
  • Break-out spaces in the Middle and Senior School buildings.
  • Staff workrooms.
  • Staff and Student Amenities.
  • Reception desk and Sick room.

A magnificent decking area will overlook panoramic views over the surrounding area. This will be an ideal location for staff and senior school students to relax during their breaks. The adjoining rooms also make this an ideal location for future functions that the School may hold, with easy access to the Home Economics room that allow us to cater for such functions.

Whilst this is a Secondary School project, the Primary School and in particular the Upper Primary, will benefit by gaining access to some of these specialised facilities.

We are also intending to complete the ring road within the Stage 1 development of the Secondary School. This ring road, will be one way entering via Sandow Lane and will exit via the other side of the Secondary School onto Onkaparinga Valley Road. Along this road, additional kiss and drop spaces will be provided and car parking for Secondary Staff and visitors to the Secondary School. We anticipate significant improvements to the traffic congestion both inside and outside the School ground which in turn should improve many safety aspects.

We have also being working behind the scenes with our community. We have signed a long term lease for the Verdun Soldiers Memorial Hall car park and are currently working on arrangements to hire the hall during school hours for some of our dance/drama classes and community functions. This is a win/win situation for both the School and the Hall Committee.
