Year 8 Tasmanian Wilderness Experience

During Term 1 the Year 8 students will venture to Tasmania for a wilderness and service experience.  We are excited to be partnering with a local Tasmanian Primary school with a similar nature focus to our school.  The students will be involved in a range of service activities to assist the educational aims of the school.  The wilderness focus will include a boat trip down a pristine rainforest lined river and a day hike at the magnificent Cradle Mountains, and some outdoor adventure activities.  The camp will also be vital as a bonding experience for students as they embark on their Secondary journey.

Year 9 CAMP

Students experience homelessness in Adelaide City. They interact with support agencies and experience difficult living conditions. They also participate in Outdoor Education activities.

Year 10 CAMP KANGAROO ISLAND

Students participate in a range of Outdoor Educational activities and service opportunities.

The Arts

Our Secondary School students have incredible opportunities to participate in Musicals, Plays and Drama Productions to continue the strong learning of the Arts at Verdun. Instrumental lessons are offered on a private basis and there are opportunities for students to participate in the Secondary Chapel Band.

Sports and Club Activities

Hills seeks to honour and develop the sporting talent, interest and passion of our students, many of whom are sport oriented, as well as learning and practising skills as part of the Secondary Physical Education curriculum. Aquatics, Bushwalking and rich Outdoor Education experiences feature during the life of our Secondary School students.

Hills has being very successful over many years, often ‘punching above our weight’ in sports where we have entered teams. Opportunities are available to participate in many inter-school carnivals in a variety of sports including Basketball, Netball, Athletics, Volleyball, Swimming and AFL in the South Australian Christian Schools Sports Association (SACSA).

Nature and Environment

Hills is privileged to have access to the Oakbank Area School farm where our Secondary School is currently located. Most of our classrooms look out over the best oval in the Adelaide Hills and picturesque gums while having access to over 30 acres of farmland.

Hills Secondary students are actively involved in the Steer Leading and Goat programmes at the Oakbank campus which result in presenting animals and competing at the Royal Adelaide Agricultural Show. We also have access to Agricultural studies with Oakbank Area School.
